After a tough weekend last weekend, battling the rain at I-88 Speedway and a disappointing night at Fulton, Tim Currier and his Currier Racing team were looking forward getting back to business this past weekend, with I-88 Speedway and Fulton Speedway on the team’s schedule once again, as well as a rare Tuesday night event at I-88 as part of the RoC Series.
Friday night didn’t quite go as planned for Currier, as they struggled for much of the night. After salvaging a 13th place finish, the team was ready to move their attention to the next race on the schedule.
Tim Currier decided just before the 2014 season started to call Fulton Speedway their home track on Saturday nights this season. They have had several strong finishes so far, and were looking to continue that going into the night. The opening practice session was a great indication that it was going to be a great night, as Currier was the fastest car on the track. After finishing third in his qualifying heat, the Currier team went to work on getting the car dialed in for the 35 lap main event. They started the race from the front row, and Currier jumped out to the early race lead. For the first 21 laps of the race, Currier was under pressure, but a mechanical failure to the second place car left Currier alone up front for the final 15 laps allowing him to open up a full straightaway lead and a convincing victory at Fulton Speedway. As the car came to a stop in victory lane, steam was rolling for the overheated engine.
“I was hoping we weren’t going to go too many more laps as you can see the steam coming out. The engine was starting to get a little warm from being hooked up so much”, says Currier from victory lane. “It was tough. The top had a lot of bite to it making the car tight at times. The crew has been fighting all summer long to get this back in shape, this thing was fast”.
Currier planned to be back at I-88 Speedway on Tuesday night for an RoC event, but rain forced track officials to cancel the program. They will now race on Thursday night at Rolling Wheels Raceway for their opening night of 2014.
This coming weekend, Currier will be back to I-88 Speedway on Friday night, and Fulton Speedway on Saturday.
